The CLACK VALVE is one of the most "user friendly" and well known water softeners in INDIANA..... the CLACK control is the most advanced valve available today...and far surpasses the FLECK , CULLIGAN and AUTOTROL valve.
My 45,000 CLACK unit used 12 ..40 lb bags of salt last year. This is for a family of 4 .....3 bathroom home on city water . 2009

Dec 2, 06 Here is a 2003 SEARS "self cleaning -- roto-swirl" electric heater.... the lower element in this Sears unit is completely buried in lime .
This is north side city water.
No matter what Sears claims, no water heater on the market today is truly "self cleaning", someone (the plumber) has to tear into the bottom of the heater and scrape out this gunk every few years, it cannot be flushed out with a hose..
This lime is one big reason your dishes come out of the dishwasher so cloudy and your clothes look so dull.
You literally heat and boil this "gunkey oatmeal " in the bottom of the heater and you also bathe in it every day..!!
Look at this ---nasty green goo --- that came pouring out of this leaking water heater ....... about 15 gallons worth.... good grief!
This is your average "jelly sludge" that most people fail to flush from their water heaters...
Their is no comparison between the CLACK and the cheap "off brands" you see at the hardware stores. The CLACK is easily repairable and easy to find parts for.
The hardware store brands usually come with cheap quality parts, and are almost impossible to repair.
All bargain brands have very poor quality filter resin made to only last about 5 years in city water. That is why they cost less...
The CLACK mineral resin is heavy-heavy duty and twice the quality that comes in all the low end units.

BUYER BEWARE....
Their are many people in town stuck with monthly payments for equipment that they were talked into buying over 10 years ago!!!
BEWARE of the "home show" "fly-by-night" "high pressure con men " selling fancy sounding Water Softeners and Reverse Osmosis equipment for more than $6000!! 
We hear this tale all the time from people who need repairs made to their broken down equipment, or want to move the units to their new home. The store they bought the junk from is usually out of business, but their monthly payment goes on and on.....
Don't get tricked into buying any of this "over-priced " "hyped up junk" out at the home shows ...
